USAG Floor Music Time Limits by Level (2026-2027)
One of the most common questions we get: “How long should my gymnast's floor music be?” The answer depends on their level. Here's the complete reference for the 2026-2027 season. The USAG committee met in May 2025 and released the new Code of Points in April 2026, which includes several time limit changes that take effect August 1, 2026.
⏱How Is Floor Time Measured?
The clock starts with the gymnast's first movement and stops with their final movement. It does not start when the music begins playing. This means any intro beats, beeps, or lead-in time in your music track do not count toward the time limit.
For example, if your music has a 3-second intro before your gymnast starts moving, those 3 seconds are free — the timer doesn't start until they move.

Xcel Divisions
Xcel floor routines have a maximum time limit (no minimum). The music must not exceed this length.
| Division | Max Time |
|---|---|
| Bronze | 0:45 |
| Silver | 0:45 CHANGED |
| Gold | 1:00 |
| Platinum | 1:15 CHANGED |
| Diamond | 1:30 |
| Sapphire | 1:30 |
Compulsory Levels (1-5)
Compulsory levels use assigned music provided by USAG. Gymnasts at these levels do not need to purchase floor music — the routines and music are standardized for everyone.
Optional Levels (6-10 & Elite)
Starting at Level 6, gymnasts choose their own floor music. Floor exercise has a maximum time of 1:30 for Levels 8-10 and Elite, while Levels 6 and 7 have a shorter 1:20 limit.
| Level | Max Time |
|---|---|
| Level 6 | 1:20 CHANGED |
| Level 7 | 1:20 CHANGED |
| Level 8 | 1:30 |
| Level 9 | 1:30 |
| Level 10 | 1:30 |
| Elite | 1:30 |
Important Notes
- These are maximum times. Your music can be shorter — there is no penalty for a routine that finishes early.
- Music over the time limit will result in a deduction. Make sure your cut is at or under the maximum.
- Silver's change matters most. Silver gymnasts who used 1:00 music last season will need new 0:45 cuts for 2026-2027. Existing Silver music will be too long.
- Platinum gymnasts moving from 1:30 to 1:15 will also need updated cuts.
- Level 6 gymnasts gained 5 seconds (1:15 → 1:20). Existing 1:15 cuts are still legal since the time limit is a maximum.
- Level 7 gymnasts dropped from 1:30 to 1:20. Existing 1:30 cuts will be too long and will need to be re-cut.
